Drug Outreach
Overview
The Department of Human Services has funded Fitzroy Legal Service for the Drug Outreach Lawyer position for a period of three years. The Funding is part of the Municipal Drug Strategy Initiatives across the five Hotspot Local Government Areas.
The Drug Outreach Lawyer provides community legal education, referral and advice and, where appropriate, advocacy and casework services to drug users.
The Drug Outreach Lawyer works closely with relevant agencies and the community within the City of Yarra in an outreach model focus on areas of high need.
By providing advice, referral, advocacy and casework service, the Drug Outreach Lawyer aims to address and assist individuals and the community with legal problems related to drug use. The position works closely with the individuals and community collaboratively to assist with rehabilitation and strong focus on harm minimization.
Catchment
To be eligible for this service you must live, work or study in:
- Abbotsford
- Brunswick
- Carlton
- Clifton Hill
- Collingwood
- East Melbourne
- Fitzroy
- North Fitzroy, or
- Richmond.
Cost
There is no cost.

The Drug Outreach Lawyer is located in the Fitzroy Legal Service office at 124 Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

Volunteering
If you want to even up the imbalances and inequities in the legal system and provide advice and support to people who don't always have the money to pay for it, you might want to volunteer with the night service.
Volunteers can be:
- Barristers or solicitors
- Paralegals, and
- Law students.
