Practice Funding RestoredFitzroy Legal Service welcomes the resumption of the Practice funding until December 31st 2008. However, we continue to reject the policy basis for the Victoria Legal Aid’s cessation of funding of our practice.Thanks to Blake Dawson who on a pro bono basis helped negotiate the agreement with Victoria Legal Aid. The agreement includes facilitated negotiation with VLA about sustainable future funding arrangements. We are hopeful that this will lead to a creative solution to continue our service to the many clients who are disadvantaged in their engagement with legal systems. The practice income for 2007-2008 was $199,000. This enabled casework services to be provided to 400 clients. The practice is a vital part of Fitzroy Legal Service and the service is grateful for the strong support which it has received for the work of the practice.
