The Fitzroy Legal Service Inc. is a not for profit incorporated association. The Darebin Community Legal Centre and Fitzroy Legal Service have recently amalgamated to form one entity. The Darebin Community Legal Centre is now a program of the Fitzroy Legal Service.
The purposes of the organization are:
- to provide free and readily accessible legal service to people in necessitous financial circumstances who live, study or work in and around the City of Yarra or the City of Darebin and to such other persons in need as the Association may identify from time to time;
- to initiate and encourage the reform of unjust or inequitable legal structures and processes affecting disadvantaged or vulnerable community members; and
- to promote the agency of disadvantaged or vulnerable community members in the management of their legal affairs by providing legal information and education
The Board of the Fitzroy Legal Service is looking to appoint an independent board member to complement the skills and experience of the current eight (8) board members. We are seeking expressions of interest from individuals who have a passion for social justice, support our purposes, and have strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Additionally, experience in the commercial sector, branding/marketing, fundraising, philanthropic networks or publications will be well regarded. Suitable candidates from a variety of cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island people, are encouraged to apply.
