Volunteers have always been at the heart of the services FLS provides to the community, and we rely heavily on the expertise and commitment of outstanding volunteers.
FLS values are Integrity, Courage & Passion, Empowerment & Advocacy, Connected to Community and we look for these in our volunteer applications. FLS provides volunteers with the opportunity to work in a supportive and enriching environment and to do work that will be of direct benefit to the community.
FLS volunteers work for us in one or more of the following ways:
- NIGHT SERVICE: lawyers, paralegals and administrative assistants who provide support the free legal advice services covering a very wide range of clients and issues.
- DAY SERVICE: lawyers, law graduates and final-year law students who assist our paid staff with their work at both our offices and at the Neighbourhood Justice Centre and Heidelberg Magistrates Court.
- Other work including administrative assistance, legal and social policy research, project work and assistance from pro bono firms.
We are slowly reintroducing elements of the Volunteer Program back into the services we provide.
